Brno, Czech Republic – Overview

May 14, 2022May 14, 2022 by admin

Food and drink: The first thing that struck me was the fact that a pint was the same price as coffee. A friend of mine used to travel from Germany to the Czech Republic to buy beer, so that ends the discussion about which beer is better. A peculiar type of pub can be found, where you and your friends can help yourself to your own beer directly from the center of the table. Heaven on earth, you say? Make sure you don’t skip the Starobrno brewery (near the center), where ladies can be seen drinking beer even at 4pm. Smazeny syr – Melted yellow cheese was on the top list of my snacks. The local cuisine is known for knedl (potato dumplings) and eels (stew). Unfortunately, I don’t like meat, therefore I can’t give my opinion.

Transport: Two words: punctual and reliable. It is mainly made up of trams and is said to be the best organized transport system in Europe. Which is unrivaled, compared to most countries I’ve been to, it runs every hour through the night. In case you are planning a longer stay, you can ask at the central station for available day and zone tickets.

Bustling nightlife and plenty of expats can be seen when the lights go out. The reason is that many big companies in the IT industry have established themselves here.

useful information: The bank clerk will direct you to use the external (Arabic) exchange kiosks. I guess they do not charge commission and at the end of the day we have to trust the word of the professionals. Oh almost forgot: take CZ Korunas for your cash, don’t use euros.

Not to be missed in the region:

  • swim in lakes: You have to take the bus to the outskirts of the city (Bystrc, stop “P?ístavišt?”). A pleasant walk will take you along the river bank. Swimming in the lake was very refreshing for me and the truth is that I am a bit of a natural. Call me Tarzan but I didn’t wallow in the mud just because of the crowd. Yes, I had a pint; He was in the Czech Republic, after all.
  • Macocha Abyss: Sweet memories of the boat inside the cave and the echoing corridors. Although a bit claustrophobic.
  • Vyskov water park: It was my first time. He was accompanied by my colleague, a boy twice my age, so age is not a limitation. Also, it is not a crime to feel the tingling of the water. You can imagine how we blended in with the crowd, which was mainly children and their parents.
  • castles: many of them in the area.-Špilberk

and many more…
