Electric Cars Be Hired
If you’re planning a road trip, electric cars could be a perfect solution. While EVs are not yet mainstream, interest in renting them is increasing as gas prices continue to rise. Last October, Hertz announced plans to purchase 100,000 Teslas, and a peer-to-peer rental marketplace, Turo, predicts that the number of electric cars in operation will reach 25,000 by the end of the year.
Although Hire luxury electric car is not yet widespread, some destinations do offer cheaper rental prices than others. According to Skyscanner, one in three Britons would consider renting an electric car abroad. Spain and Portugal are the two best value holiday destinations for renting electric cars. For instance, a week’s hire in late July in Lisbon costs EUR310, while a week’s rental in Alicante, Spain, costs EUR420.
One of the biggest challenges for EV rental companies is how to recharge the car. The challenge is figuring out how to set up charging infrastructure. The best way to find a car rental company that has a charging station near you is to ask for a tutorial. Additionally, EVs have a giant touch-screen tablet that allows drivers to control the temperature and see how much driving range the car has. This helps them make informed decisions about which EVs to rent.
Can Electric Cars Be Hired?
Most car rental aggregator websites do not include filters that filter by EV type. Kayak is an exception, but most do not. Instead, you’ll have to search directly through rental agencies to find EVs. If you find EVs, you’ll likely end up saving money on fuel and maintenance costs. However, EVs are expensive, so if you’re traveling on a budget, you should opt for a less costly model.
While Hertz and other rental companies are leading the way with a nationwide electric car rental program, Enterprise isn’t as out front with its initiative. Enterprise, a privately held company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, began participating in the Drive Electric Orlando Rental Pilot in 2014. It is a multi-year study sponsored by the Electrification Coalition, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that advocates for electric car adoption.
EV rental companies are increasingly offering EVs on their platforms. Currently, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental, and Alamo Rent-A-Car offer EV rentals. This company plans to expand the program to Canada and Alberta later this year. These companies also have partnerships with factories and multi-residential buildings to help people get acquainted with EVs. And, with the popularity of the EV rental market, the number of EV rentals is expected to grow exponentially.
