Kinetic watches get power when the wrist is in motion, the movement makes the watch work. A kinetic watch was first introduced in 1986 by Seiko watches. This watch converts kinetic energy into electrical energy. These types of watches need to be cleaned every 5 to 10 years to prevent malfunction and dirt buildup.
The steps to disassemble and clean a Seiko watch include:
Seiko watch disassembly
1. Initially, with the help of a watch screwdriver, remove all the screws that attach the watch to the bracelet. After removing the bracelet, store it aside.
2. Now turn your watch face down, on the back of the face you will find a metal plate. Remove the metal plate by grasping the wall of the plate and turning it counterclockwise. After removing the back plate, set it aside.
3. Remove the O-ring or gasket with the help of a pair of tweezers; These pliers also help turn any fine machinery that needs to loosen the gasket. Now you can place the gasket with the metal plate.
4. Separate the threaded pin from the side of the Seiko watch. With the help of the tweezers, hold the Clock in place and with the help of your fingers, remove the pins from the wall of the clock. Now, place the pin with other materials in a safe place.
5. With the help of tweezers, slowly remove all the fine machinery from the Seiko Watch.
6. Place the rest of the clock interiors on the face plate/glass face plate. Great care must be taken when jamming moving parts as the timing mechanism could be working. Set aside the faceplate/dial along with the other interior materials.
7. The last step is to remove the hour hand and minute hand from the front of the watch with the help of tweezers.
Cleaning a Seiko watch
1. Put filtered water into an ultrasonic cleaner, put the inner parts of the watch inside the ultrasonic cleaner. To avoid damage during cleaning, only a few pieces should be placed at a time.
2. Start the cleaning cycle of the ultrasonic cycle. Take the cleaned Seiko watch parts out of the ultrasonic cleaner.
3. Immerse all Seiko watch parts in a bowl filled with cleaning naphtha for one minute, the cleaning naphtha will clean any remaining grease or oil stains from the watch components. For greasy parts, repeat soaking for half a minute in cleaning naphtha and scrub the components with a soft brush if necessary.
4. Place all cleaned parts on a white sheet of paper as soon as you remove it from the cleaning naphtha. Keep all pieces separately so that all pieces dry properly.
5. Allow all parts to dry properly; it should be allowed to dry for at least 3 hours.
