Why do I snore during pregnancy?

May 23, 2021 by admin

It is common to start snoring during pregnancy. Therefore, if you have been snoring after recently conceiving, it is quite normal. Typically, during pregnancy, women begin snoring when sudden weight gain begins to put pressure on the airways, compressing the flow of air. Most of the time, snoring begins between the sixth and ninth month, when the pressure on the lungs increases due to the growth of the baby and the extra weight adds to the snoring.

However, if you find that the snoring is loud or sporadically more than normal, it is best to consult your healthcare professional. Although snoring is usually just an unnecessary annoyance, it can lead to complications later if heavy snoring is ignored. Constant noises and awkward positions due to the inability to sleep on your side during the last trimester can lead to increased snoring. It is better to take precautions to stop snoring than to face the consequences later. In most cases, snoring stops automatically after delivery.

The main side effects of snoring are lack of sleep, low oxygen supply to the brain, and the risk of developing hypertension, diabetes, and even pre-eclampsia. Snoring during pregnancy usually increases due to nasal and sinus congestion, while sudden weight gain exacerbates the problem. Other signs to look out for are constant daytime sleepiness, poor attention span, and extreme fatigue. These can be minimized with the use of snoring solutions that have proven helpful and effective for years. Snoring at any point is caused by inflammation in the airways, loose muscles, and layers of fat over the throat region that limit exhalation and inhalation adequately and cause snoring.

There are many simple methods to stop snoring, such as nasal strips that widen the nostrils to help you breathe easier or herbal throat sprays that contain a number of natural oils such as lavender and primrose that soothe tissues soft and help decongest. Other than that, some of the wonderful nasal drops work wonders. These are limited to 1-2 drops in each nostril just before bed and they lubricate and dilate your nasal passages and throat, helping you sleep better and snore less. Chin straps and mouth guards are excellent snoring devices for mouth breathers. Soft, flexible chin straps help close your mouth and breathing is now more even, reducing snoring. All of these remedies are completely safe during pregnancy and do not affect the fetus or you.

It is best to avoid all potential risks to the baby and yourself and it is imperative to stop snoring in order to have a better and healthier baby, which is only possible when you are sleeping and resting properly. As snoring leads to lower oxygen levels in the brain, it becomes even more important to stop irritating noises at night. Try some of the snoring solutions mentioned above and get a good night’s sleep.
