The legendary Gerber knives were founded in 1939 by Pete Gerber. Gerber Legendary Knives started in Portland, Oregon, but later moved its headquarters to Tigard, Oregon. Gerber was the first knife maker to collaborate with a custom knife maker. The maker of custom knives was David Murphy.

These knives became very popular and then the famous Abercrombie and Fitch began selling them in their catalog in 1939. Then they exploded on their own that same year and the rest is history of knives.
In 2003, they began generating revenues of $ 100 million and became the second largest multi-tool sales leader in the United States.
Gerber has built a solid reputation in knife and multitool manufacturing over the years and in 1985 Pete Gerber was inducted into the Cutlery Hall of Fame at the 1985 Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia.
