Plastic skateboards are made from several different types of plastics and are relatively easy to manufacture in large quantities by using injection molding manufacturing processes. Most plastic skateboards are considered cheap compared to wooden skateboards.
Still, not all plastic skateboards are flimsy or should be considered inferior. It really depends on the type of plastic used. Most riders like a fairly firm board for tricks with just a little stretch in the center for hard landings and spring action. All carbon boards and composite build boards can stand up to the scrutiny of comparison and are preferred by some riders.
The skateboard axles that hold the wheels are one of the most important components of modern skateboards. They generally consist of a shaft, a triangular-shaped hanger, and a pivot bolt. The axles are bolted to the front plate, which is bolted to the skateboard.
The pivot can be loosened slightly to allow for more or less stiffness, which makes the skateboard turn more easily or ride stiffer for steering. The rubber grommet helps take up space when choosing a losing setting. Wood and plastic plank trucks use the same basic principles and strategies, however generally the best trucks will be found attached to the highest quality lumber planks.
In the future, skateboards will be made of carbon nanotubes and will most likely fly; Hover Boards. In fact, a hoverboard will not need wheels or trucks and this will save weight and make them much more aerodynamic for flight. Hoverboards are big and cumbersome these days, but that’s also changing and a lot of radical new designs are in the works.
