Non-traditional networks

April 8, 2021April 8, 2021 by admin

Finding things in common with others will allow you to create a good relationship with them. It is often said that birds of the same plumage fly together, the same is true for people too! We join clubs and organizations because we want to be with people who have similar interests, it makes us feel more comfortable.

Joining clubs can be a great way to build your network. When you connect with the Givers Gain attitude, you will discover that you can build relationships with a variety of people who have a common interest. Think of all the clubs, groups and associations out there, from dog breeds, car clubs, fan clubs, sports clubs, knitting, running, etc. You get the idea, you join a club and you meet people. Here are 3 ideas for finding organizations that have like-minded people in them.

  1. Follow your passions – What do you love to do when you have free time? Is it organic gardening, showing your dog, working on cars, running marathons, knitting, painting, or reading? There are clubs for all these activities and anything else you can think of. Find one and start going to meetings. My niece is very shy, she recently joined a group of writers, is now eager to meet with club members to talk about writing and has made great friends and contacts that will enter her network of people she knows and in whom trust.
  2. Follow your business interest – Are you a member of the association that represents your company? There is an association for almost everything. I’m a member of the National Speakers Association, it’s a great place to learn from other experts and develop a network of other talented speakers that I can turn to when I need help. Find an association to participate with. Do more than join, all associations have volunteer opportunities. Make a name for yourself and get involved.
  3. Follow your belief system – Regardless of your religion, there is a place for you to get involved. My daughter is on the board of directors of her church and has made very valuable connections there. It’s not the reason she’s there, but there are people there that she knows, likes, and trusts to get businesses started. Finding people who have a belief system similar to yours allows you to build a deeper relationship and develop trust. These are great contacts to have on our network, they care about you and what you do.

If you are embarrassed by the traditional concept of networking, take another look. Networking happens all the time, we share information, connections, ideas and support, that’s what networking and developing a network is all about, don’t let you freak out in your cave, go out there and find a place that suits you to you and your style. .
