Finding a herbivorous pet for a herbivorous person

May 13, 2022May 13, 2022 by admin

As a vegan I welcome a herbivorous pet of any kind into my home. While I have issues with the natural order of the circle of life, I find myself unable to feed one animal another, so all my little companions are happy little herbivores just like me. This article is meant to help any other vegans who feel the same way find a herbivore companion of their own. If you own a larger land, you may want larger herbivores that need more space to frolic, and that’s great too! The best part of having an animal around is the feeling you get knowing that they feel comfortable in your presence.

indoor pets

Until now, when it comes to a herbivorous pet to play with in the house, you’ll have the choice between a few small furry mammals, a couple of birds, and a reptile. The mammals are rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas. All of them are vegan rodents and can be kept in cages. Every time you take them out to play, make sure children around the pet are careful when handling the little one. Macaws and toucans are iconic birds and they are both vegan! Macaws, also known as parrots, love to bond with their human friend if they are treated well. The toucan may try to bite an insect, but if you provide it with enough fruit, it will stick like a herbivore. Iguanas, like toucans, will eat insects, but only if they are starving, so feed it the right kind of leaves and it will still be a true vegan pet.

outdoor farts

Keeping small indoor pets may be too limited for you and you may be willing to share some land for a herbivorous friend. The best type of vegan pet to fit your standards would be horses, emus, goats, cattle, and capybaras. Most people see horses, goats, and cattle on many different ranches and farms, but I bet most people don’t think twice about those animals being vegan. Emus are a close relative of ostriches and can reach up to 6 feet in height. These guys have legs strong enough to take down chain-link fences, so it’s good to keep them properly contained for their safety and the safety of your property as well. Capybaras are giant rodents, it sounds scary but they are lovable louts. They are cousins to guinea pigs and you may notice that they bark like dogs. They will always keep a smile on your face.

Green love

An herbivore for a pet as a vegan makes you appreciate nature more knowing that you are connected with your companion in more than just diet, but also as a friend. Understanding the animal before turning it into a lovable pet should be the most important part of the decision process. Always consider adopting an animal from animal shelters like the Humane Society. The best part of any relationship with an animal should be how comfortable and loved the animal feels towards you, the guardian.
