EMR systems: a tool that saves lives

April 1, 2021 by admin

After many years, the healthcare system has decided to follow other industries moving away from paper and opting for EMR systems to better manage their patients’ medical records. Before the emergence of EMR systems, there were many flaws when it came to keeping a patient’s record safe. In some cases, it was due to negligence on the part of staff in failing to dispose of documentation in a safe environment. Hospitals and doctors have been embarrassed to discover that hundreds and sometimes thousands of medical records ended up in a dumpster for anyone to find and steal.

Easy but secure access to documents

In electronic systems, a large number of documents are temporarily stored so that medical personnel can have easy access to them. These documents are always easy to read and there when you need them. In a paper system, files are often lost and this can be dangerous if a doctor needs the files to know what medication a patient is taking to avoid prescribing something new that could cause an adverse interaction.

No need for storage

Electronic medical records architecture can hold a large amount of data in a small amount of space, so offices will have more space for important instruments, once all or most of the paper has been removed. The database functions in EMR systems generally consist of any health problems a patient has faced in the past, their current conditions, allergies, immunizations, and medications that they may be currently taking.

Paperless EMR systems can greatly improve a hospital’s efficiency by combining previously separate records and tasks. Linking different aspects of files and patient information can save time that is best spent caring for the patient rather than rummaging through paper trying to find a missing file.

Workstations or web bases

Depending on the situation, a physician may choose to obtain a system that is placed in the building or may use an EMR system that can be accessed via the Internet. Despite this small difference, both types work in the same way and offer the same benefits to the patient, the doctor, and the hospital.

If you want to run a more fluid medical practice, an EMR system is a must have. It has quite a few benefits in the real world. More importantly, it reduces costly and the kind of deadly mistakes that are made every day due to paper file failure and human error. High-quality EMR systems that contain all of your patient’s electronic medical records not only save time and money, but can also save lives.
