As a career consultant, I try to read as many books on this topic as I can. I just finished reading Now What: A Teen’s Guide to Choosing the Perfect Career by Nicholas Lore. I had very high expectations going into this book based on the last book I read by this author. I must say that I was not disappointed.
The first few chapters are pretty basic and a bit boring as the author describes various tests college students can take to find out their personality types and the careers they would be best suited for. The best part of the book is the toolkit that Lore provides. This allows the reader to engage and learn as he reads. The book forces you to take action for his career and actually gives you encouragement and motivation along the way.
However, there were a couple of negatives. The only thing I didn’t like was that the author connects his testing and training services and sometimes I felt like he was reading a promotional article for his business instead of a book that he was supposed to inform and educate. The other negative was that there was never any mention of the negative economy we’re in and how that affects people who are just starting out in their careers.
Overall, I recommend this book to any high school or college student who is ready to start looking for a career. It’s hard, so the more you can read and prepare, the better off you’ll be.
