A brief introduction to London

May 31, 2021 by admin

London is the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is located in the southeast of England, on the banks of the River Thames. The interior of London, the exterior of London and the city of London consist of Greater London, which is the London we usually talk about. It has an area of 1,600 square kilometers with a population of 7.5 million. It is divided into 33 districts and each city has a mayor, a parliament and a city hall.

This historic city was first built in 43 BC. C. by the Romans. Around the 1st century AD, under the reins of Rome, England used the River Thames as a vital traffic line and built the city building along the banks of the River Thames. Even now people can see the ancient walls left by Rome. The ancient Romans left this city in the 5th century, and later the Angles, Saxons and Danes wanted to occupy this city. William the Conqueror owned the city in 1060, ending the fighting. In 1087, William I built the Tower of London in 1087, which is a well-known scenic spot throughout the world.

The 12th and 13th centuries are extremely important in London’s history, because London has the basic framework of government during this period, which laid the foundation for prosperous London in the Middle Ages. Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and many law schools were built in this period.

It has a glorious history in the 16th and 17th centuries, during which the culture and power of this nation greatly improved. Then the Protestant Reformation, the peasant uprising and the civil war happened one by one. The Black Death, fires and the outbreak of the Second World War caused serious damage in this city. However, no matter what adversity it faced, this city survived. Today, London lost its dominant position in the world, but it continues to attract people from home and abroad.

Many people know the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and the British Museum, although they have not been to London. I think everyone has their own London after visiting this place.
